FAITH: yuna tribute
REPRISAL
CHANGING ROLES
"It all began when I saw this sphere of you."

In the only sequel ever to be created for a Final Fantasy game, we are blinded by bleached teeth and a profusion of brightly colored outfits. It’s arguably a glorified game of dress-up. What I found very fascinating about FFX-2, however, was the change in our formerly somber heroine. In the sequel, a heavy weight has been lifted. The youth that flashed by is now upon her, and Yuna can finally let loose, live the years that she lost. We see her smile, we hear her sing. She is a different girl, when we meet her again. Scantily clad, having traded her staves and wands for a pair of pistols, Yuna has taken to the skies and finally shows us another side of her personality. She is fun-loving and cheerful, and no longer laughs just for the sake of the many thousands who rely on her smile to keep going. Now, Yuna also laughs for herself, feels joy for herself. She is given the opportunity to be selfish and embark on quests that are not for the greater good, but for her own happiness. We get to see her in a different light.

Under the layers of responsibility and compassion of FFX Yuna was the colorful, youthful heart of FFX-2 Yuna, and it’s something we tend to overlook. Throughout the entire storyline of FFX, she was a seventeen year old girl whose age we forgot because she was just so serious, so composed. She was years ahead of her time, and made that way by the path she had chosen.

Yuna liberated not only Spira, but also herself.
