SPIRITS
THE FAYTH & AEONS
"Even we were once human. That is why we must dream." - Shiva's Fayth

The fayth are dreaming, and the aeons are the dreams of the fayth. Locked within statues are the spirits of the sleeping dead, caught in a limbo between this world and the other. They are bound to serve Yevon forever, until their souls are given leave to rest and their dreams are no longer necessary to continue the vainglory of one man. They sing his hymns and serve as bulwarks of his religion, awaiting an endless tide of summoners who will each pray for the power to become saviors. Were these spirits, once mortal men and women renowned for valor or extraordinary skill or a certain spark of vitality, aware of what they would be contributing to? The iceberg that is Yevon, all the more terrifying because of the percentage of it which cannot be seen, rides on an icy sea of dreaming and death. It is because of a concept of sacrifice and perfect trust that Sin and Yevon continue to be reborn—it began with the fayth, who were willing to give up their lives for Yevon in order to create the aeons, and it continued with the summoners who would call upon those aeons to aid them in the journey to Zanarkand. The Final Aeon is only a magnified, concentrated version of that. The summoner reaches Zanarkand Dome and discovers that they will not die alone. Another, one with whom they share a perfect trust, one whom they love perhaps above all others, must become their Final Aeon…and in doing so, perish with them.

There is so much cruelty, such a high price to pay. A higher price than they ever imagined. Because the death endured by the one who becomes the Final Aeon is only the guise of death. That soul will live on, to wear the armor of a new Sin, and deal out more death in a ripple effect that you never would have expected from a perfect trust, from a true love.
