FAITH: yuna tribute
REFLECTION
ON THE SURFACE
"I want my journey...to be full of laughter."

Summoner YunaIt is practically pointless to even include a page listing Yuna's basic information; it can be found nearly everywhere, and besides, who doesn't recognize the girl in the logo? I want to dedicate this page instead to the girl you assume Yuna will be, when you first meet her as she stumbles out of the Chamber of the Fayth in Besaid. In fact, I will tell you what I saw: yet another boring, weak, relatively useless Final Fantasy leading lady who could probably be counted on to faint every five seconds or get kidnapped sometime in the storyline. Naturally, I was seeking another favorite character in less than five minutes, dismissing Yuna as just another typical "heroine." I mean, she was fainting already! It was pretty discouraging.

It took a second play-through of FFX to realize just how wrong I was. In fact, it was around this time that I realized that the leading ladies of Final Fantasy, even if all they do is cast White Magic and remain in the back row, have the same brand of silent strength. Strength comes in many forms, in varying degrees of intensity; the fragility of Yuna's exterior, the purity and innocence that is associated with her wide-eyed wonder at the world she must soon leave, should not be labeled as an absence of strength.

On the surface, she is a summoner and a healer, and you will call her only to cast the cure spells and call aeons for that last ditch effort. You will probably abuse her overdrive, and never even think about her ever again. Most likely, you will cringe at the English voice actress chosen for her role (I did!) And there is a big chance that you will pass her by, because it's all too easy to set her aside in favor of a character who is easier to read.

My advice? Don't.
